Eating in Spain

Apart from the Churos and Chocolate I haven't shown you much of the Spanish food, which is wonderful. So here are some pictures to whet your appetite. We found a wonderful little place about 20 metres from our front door and discovered this wonderful dish which we say people eating the first day we went there.
It consists of roasted tomartoes on a bed of baby spinach with goats cheese that has a little caramalised brown sugar on top. We have shared it several times but I have told Frank that it is so good that  I want to go back on Friday night (our last night in Madrid) and have one all to myself! I think he is thinking the same thing.
Frank also ordered a chicken salad with blue cheese dressing served on toasted bread.
And I had a tempura cheese ball.
When you arrive they bring the menues over with a tapas for you and with the bill comes a small liquer. If you are ever in Madrid we can heartily recommend Kaixo Taberna, Calle Barcelona 12, not far from the Puerta Del Sol.

We had lunch again today at the Mercado San Miguel, we arrived hot and sweaty ( 30 in Madrid today) as we had gone for a walk to find a tower we had seen from the train as it arrived at RENFE Atocha on our way hom from Cuenca last night. We suddenly realised that the market closed at 2pm  so had to rush uphill at the double to get there in time. Here is what Frank had for lunch.
The one on the left was thickly sliced bread with caramilised onion and a soft goats cheese. The one on the right was pork with onion and carrot. I had a tandoori chicken kabab and a tomato and mozzarella kebab.
On our way back to our apartment for a rest and to escape the heat and catch up with my emails, we walked through the Plaza Mayor. It is the festival of San Isidro, the patron saint of Madrid. The public holiday is May 15th, but for a week either side there are fiestas, music and dance. There is obviously some formal proceedings there soon as they have erected scaffolding, seating, spotlights and sound systems there. Aparently it is here that San Isidro was beatified in 1621.
